Athletics Department Fills Vacancy with Experience and Expertise
North Central Athletics would like to announce the hiring of Jon High as the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Director of Athletics. High comes to NCU following a two year stint as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Crown College (St Bonifacius, Minn.) which included winning the 2008 NCCAA Region Championship.
Prior to that High worked for six years as Director of Athletics and head coach at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, IA. During High’s tenure, the Eagles accumulated an overall record of 84-89, including two runner-up finishes in the NCCAA North Central Regional Championship game. In 2002, Jon was selected as the NCCAA Region Coach-of-the-Year. Also while at Faith High was the Tournament Director for the NCCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball National Championship Tournament in 2001 and 2002.
Before coming to the college ranks High coached and taught for six years at Fourth Baptist High School in Plymouth, MN. During the last 13 summers, Coach High has organized and directed summer basketball camps including three with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
In 1993, High completed his Master's of Sports Science Degree from the United States Sport Academy and brings a wealth of athletics administration experience to NCU. The university hopes to capitalize on this as the department shifts roles and responsibilities in an effort become more effective in its transition to an NCAA DIII member institution.
As Director of Athletics, High will lead the day-to-day operations of the department which includes managing the full-time Athletics Staff and oversight of the 12 varsity sports and their coaching staffs. High will also use his ten years of high school and college teaching experience to instruct physical education and sports management classes at North Central.
High graduated from Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in 1990 where he was a four-year letter winner in both basketball and soccer. During his senior season he was recognized as a NCCAA All-American in both soccer and basketball.
Coach High lives with his wife Amy and three children, Josh, Jamie, and Jared. In his spare time he enjoys golfing and watching his kids play sports.
