Clark-Danielson Gymnasium Gets Makeover

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.--- The Home of Rams Basketball and Volleyball is getting a facelift. The Clark-Danielson College Life Center Gymnasium will have its floor sanded down to its unique bare wood surface and then repainted to meet the new NCAA three-point line addition and better match the NCU Navy and Vegas color combination.

The new design will include the varsity basketball and volleyball courts as well as two practice basketball courts that will be used for intramurals and varsity practices. With this new paint job the gym will feature a clean look. The former three-point area and lane were filled with a blue and brown paint that were begining to fade and show signs of wear and tear. They will now be open and allow the beautiful wood surface to reflect light that was formerly absorbed by the dark paint. Along with the three-point area a new logo will replace the old out of date Ram icon that was at center court.

While the new paint is a welcome update it was more than a simple aesthetic decision. The NCAA changed the three-point line distance for the men's game and that required all member schools to add the new boundary to their floor. North Central saw this as an opportunity to update the rest of the court that was cracked and damaged in several locations.

The project is being completed by Johnson Floor Sanding of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Sanding will continue for the next several days and repainting will begin mid-week. Following a period of rest to allow the paint and sealant to set the gym will be ready for use again by the end of June. During the survey stages of this project Johnson informed NCU that their home court featured a rare and unique one-inch wood slatting that is almost never used in floors build more recently. They also stated that the wood is in great shape, has aged well, and would be showcased by a more open and revealing paint scheme.

North Central's CLC Gym is home to NCU Volleyball and Basketball games as well as serving the campus for recreation and various varsity sports practices including golf, softball, baseball, tennis, and track & field. The first home game to be played on the new surface will be Tuesday, September 9 when NCU Volleyball hosts Crown College at 7pm.
