Prepare to effectively work and live in a cross-cultural setting while studying for a Global Studies degree.
The School of Global Studies at North Central University will prepare students to graduate, equipped with the necessary skills to learn, lead, and serve in globally diverse communities throughout the world. The active learning environment allows individuals to gain spiritual knowledge and gain exposure to a variety of multicultural languages, as well as worldviews. Our students will learn strategies to empower social relationships through the integration of theory and daily practice.
Due to North Central University’s tight-knit community and spiritual environment, being located in the heart of Minneapolis allows for a multitude of opportunities to not only minister to the people around you, but to receive essential coaching and leadership from professors who deeply care about their students as strategic future leaders and individuals.
The Global Studies major allows students to not only better understand cultures, but to be challenged and become equipped and refined in their academic studies. A hunger for learning, both academically and spiritually, will allow individuals to grow, and experience active learning in what is taught inside and outside of the classroom.
Part of the immersive experience within the Global Studies major includes participation in a 4 week- faculty international fieldwork experience after the student’s sophomore year. Past locations include Argentina, Bulgaria, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, India, Israel, Lebanon, Macedonia, Peru, Russia, Turkey, and Uganda.
As a student at North Central University, students have a multitude of local organizations with which to get involved in and connect with international people. The Global Studies department has created a network of connections with organizations Urban Neighbors, Somali Adult Literacy Training (SALT), and Union Gospel Mission.
The Global Studies department allows for students to build their cross-cultural communication skills, experience in intercultural service settings as well as grow in leadership and mentorship both inside and outside of the classroom.
Global Studies is truly a family. The relationships I have gained push me to be better and continuously see life from a different perspective.
