NCU celebrates excellence in faculty
North Central University is pleased to announce the recipients of its annual Faculty of the Year awards. These awards recognize professors who have demonstrated exceptional leadership through excellent teaching and mentoring, and achievement within academic disciplines. The awards are given to one faculty member who has served up to 9 years at North Central, and one is granted to a professor with 10 or more years of service.
This year’s recipients were:
- Mark Skeba, MBA, Professor of Business and Marketing, who has served at North Central since 2019, and
- Nan Muhovich, Ph.D., Professor of Global Studies, who has served at North Central since 1999.
Mark Skeba
Skeba joined the College of Business and Technology after a stellar career at General Mills, where he served on multiple teams and played a pivotal role in successful product launches. He continues to serve as a consultant to Fortune 500 companies and shares his expertise with students in creative and engaging ways. He is known for his love of Jeeps and his annual marketing class that includes a presentation in front of well-known companies.
Skeba holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Economics from St. Olaf College and an MBA from Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management, where he received special recognition as a 4.0 graduate and as an Outstanding Student in the Management Strategy Department.
Nan Muhovich
Muhovich heads the international development programming within the College of Church Leadership. She spent six years in Uganda serving with Mission: Moving Mountains (M:MM) in discipleship and development. On returning from the field, she trained pre-field missionaries with M:MM for four years. She also serves on the board of Global Horizons, Inc., a nonprofit organization mobilizing missional leaders who pursue opportunities for reconciliation, development, and discipleship.
Muhovich has been teaching at North Central since 1999. She holds a Ph.D. in International Adult Education from the University of Minnesota, an M.Div. from Bethel Seminary, and a B.A. from Macalester College. She loves loud classrooms, ethnic food, mentoring students, and walking around Lake Phalen.
Dr. Gordon Anderson Award
The Dr. Gordon Anderson Faculty of the Year Award was created to honor a faculty member who demonstrates the spirit of leadership embodied by our former president. It recognizes outstanding accomplishment in the classroom through excellent teaching and mentoring, achievement and scholarship within the academic discipline, as well as service to the NCU academic community. Students and faculty nominate the recipients of this award.
