North Central University is closely monitoring the outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, in December 2019.
University officials have been in contact with county and state officials and will continue to monitor updates from federal and international health agencies to monitor the situation.
To help keep campus healthy year-round, North Central University maintains hand-sanitizing stations in classrooms and other public spaces. As a reminder to the community in this season, laminated signs with instructions for effective hand-washing procedures are being posted in all public restrooms.
Updated communications from North Central will be posted as necessary on the university’s COVID-19 emergency management page.
Things to know
University staff are closely adhering to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and have set in motion a number of strategies to identify and monitor any potential cases.
If you have recently traveled to an area where COVID-19 has been confirmed, or have been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus, health officials encourage you to seek further guidance from your preferred health professional.
There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19 infection. Below are everyday actions to decrease the spread of respiratory viruses:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. NCU Housekeeping should be contacted to disinfect public surfaces if needed.
- Students who are ill should not attend class. They should contact their instructor, via email or telephone, to discuss appropriate adjustments. Instructors are encouraged to make appropriate adjustments based on their courses.
