North Central University is excited to introduce Demetrius Chester as the newest Guest Professor in the Business program, where he will be teaching Business Communications. With a remarkable blend of experience in both the corporate world and ministry, Professor Chester brings a unique perspective to the classroom, enriching students’ academic and spiritual journeys.
Academic and Professional Background
A native of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Demetrius Chester’s academic journey began at St. Cloud State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies and Religious Studies. His passion for leadership and human services led him to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Human Services Counseling, with a special concentration in Executive Leadership, from Liberty University. Most recently, Chester expanded his expertise by completing the Executive Management Certificate program at Yale University, solidifying his skills in leadership and strategic management.
In his professional career, Chester has demonstrated exceptional leadership in various roles. He currently serves as Senior Manager of New Accounts and Strategy Implementation at Target Corporation, where he plays a key role in shaping the company’s strategic initiatives. His business acumen is complemented by 16 years of pastoral experience, during which he has been deeply involved in church operations, youth ministry, pastoral care, finance, and administration.
Chester’s contributions extend beyond the corporate and religious spheres. He is actively involved in civic duties, serving as a Board Member of Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union and as Chair of the Damascus Way Reentry Center. His commitment to community and service is further demonstrated by his past roles, including serving as an advisory board member for the Communication Studies Department at St. Cloud State University and as a board member of the Scholars of Minnesota COPE Project.
A Legacy of Faith and Leadership
Chester’s journey of faith began at a young age. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 11 during a summer revival, and by 18, during his freshman year of college, he had acknowledged his calling to the Gospel Ministry. In 2009, Chester and his wife Nyre co-founded the Empowerment Through The Word Ministries at St. Cloud State University. This ministry, which was the first chartered predominantly African American college ministry on campus, continues to thrive and support the student body today.
Chester’s ministerial work has always been marked by a deep commitment to fostering spiritual growth and community building. His experience in pastoral care and church leadership, combined with his corporate experience, makes him an exceptional mentor and educator for students at NCU.
Looking Forward to Impacting NCU
Demetrius Chester is passionate about nurturing the spiritual and intellectual development of his students. He is excited to bring his wealth of experience into the classroom, where he hopes to inspire the next generation of Christian leaders. Chester’s unique background, which blends business acumen with a strong foundation in faith, aligns perfectly with NCU’s mission to develop leaders who are equipped to serve both God and society.
Together with his wife Nyre and their daughter Aubrey, Chester resides in Golden Valley, Minnesota. His dedication to his family, faith, and professional excellence makes him a role model for students and colleagues alike. As he steps into his role as Guest Professor of Business Communications, NCU is confident that Professor Chester will make a lasting impact on the university community.
