North Central University is delighted to announce the appointment of George Arroyo Jr. as our new Director of Athletics, effective August 1st. With a robust background in collegiate athletics and a passion for integrating faith and sports, Arroyo Jr. brings a wealth of experience and vision to our campus community.
A Legacy of Leadership and Achievement
George Arroyo Jr. joins NCU from Ohio Christian University, where he served as Director of Athletics, overseeing significant advancements in community outreach, academic performance, and athletic facilities. Under his leadership, Ohio Christian University achieved NAIA 5 Star Institution recognitions and saw notable expansions in sports offerings and technological innovations benefiting student-athletes and the entire campus.
Arroyo Jr.’s journey in athletics began as a standout soccer player at Southeastern University, where he contributed to a National Title-winning team in 2007. Transitioning from player to coach, he gained coaching experience at various institutions, including Warner University and Eastern Nazarene College, before making significant strides in leadership roles at Ohio Christian University.
A Commitment to Excellence and Faith
Throughout his career, Arroyo Jr. has emphasized the holistic development of student-athletes, integrating faith, leadership, and service into athletic programs. His dedication to nurturing character and academic achievement among athletes has earned him accolades such as the NCCAA D1 South Region Coach of the Year and recognition for his teams’ character and competitive success.
“I have a passion for college athletics and how sports provide an opportunity for coaches to develop strong men and women who impact the world,” Arroyo Jr. shared. “I’m honored to join North Central University and continue serving in a community committed to Christ-centered education and athletic excellence.”
A Warm Welcome and Future Plans
Dr. Libengood, Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, expressed enthusiasm about Arroyo Jr.’s appointment, highlighting his faith-driven leadership and commitment to enhancing the university’s athletic programs.
“I’m thrilled to have him in this role,” Dr. Libengood remarked. “George will bring stability and a deep understanding of the role of athletics in our university community. His dedication to honoring God through sports deeply impressed us.”
As George Arroyo Jr. prepares to assume his role, he will initially work remotely, with plans to gradually transition on campus starting in August. NCU looks forward to welcoming him and his family, including wife Beth, who is expecting a baby mid-semester.
