Introducing a New Episode from The Network of Women Ministers Podcast: Campus Edition – Featuring NCU

The latest addition to The Network of Women Ministers: Campus Edition podcast series features North Central University and brings together NWM representative Kristie Kerr and two dynamic students, Kaylie Crabtree and Skylar Schroeder, who share their journeys and experiences as female students called to vocational ministry.

Meet the Hosts and Guests

Kristie Kerr, ’96

Kristie Kerr serves as the representative at NCU for the Network of Women Ministers. Passionate about supporting and empowering women in ministry, Kristie engages in a heartfelt conversation with Kaylie and Skylar about their unique paths, the theme of “restore,” and the challenges and triumphs they’ve encountered along the way.

Kaylie Crabtree, ’24

Kaylie comes from a legacy of ministry, being the fourth generation in her family to be licensed with the Assemblies of God. Despite initially resisting a life in ministry, Kaylie’s journey took a turn during high school when she began assisting with chapel planning and preaching. Her experiences led her to North Central University, where she found a supportive community and numerous opportunities to grow and refine her calling. Kaylie recently graduated, feeling well-prepared for her future in ministry.

Skylar Schroeder, ’25

Skylar, unlike Kaylie, is a first-generation pastor. Her calling came at a youth convention when she was 14, and she has since nurtured her passion for ministry, influenced by her mother, a worship leader. Skylar’s journey brought her to North Central University, where she has experienced significant support and encouragement. Now a senior, Skylar is excited about her future in ministry, focusing on traveling and preaching to students.

The Journey to Ministry

Kaylie’s Path

Kaylie’s story is one of reluctant acceptance transformed into passionate commitment. Growing up in a ministry-oriented family, she initially pursued other career interests. However, her involvement in chapel planning during high school revealed her calling. Encouraged by the supportive environment at NCU, Kaylie embraced her path, gaining invaluable experience and confidence.

Skylar’s Calling

Skylar’s journey began in a non-ministerial family, but her mother’s role as a worship leader deeply influenced her. Feeling a strong call to ministry at a young age, Skylar navigated her path with enthusiasm and dedication. At NCU, she found a community that nurtured her calling, leading her to focus on a future in worship and student ministry.

Challenges and Support for Women in Ministry

Both Kaylie and Skylar highlighted the significant support they received from NCU’s faculty and administration. Recognizing the lack of female professors in church leadership, they, along with other female students, initiated a mentorship program connecting students with local female pastors. This initiative received overwhelming support from the administration, showcasing NCU’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and encouraging environment for women in ministry.

Mentorship Program

The mentorship program has been a pivotal part of the students’ experiences, providing guidance, encouragement, and practical insights from seasoned female pastors. This program has not only bridged the gap in mentorship but also created lasting professional and personal connections, further empowering female students at NCU.

Restoring the Soul: Personal Practices

Kaylie’s Practice of Silence and Solitude

One of the key themes discussed in the podcast is the idea of “restore,” inspired by Psalm 23. Kaylie shares her practice of silence and solitude, a discipline she learned in her personal formation class. This practice involves sitting quietly before the Lord, calming her mind, and reflecting on His presence. This practice has become a vital part of her routine, helping her stay grounded and focused amidst the busyness of life.

Skylar’s Reflection and Peace

Skylar emphasizes the importance of reflection and recognizing God’s constant presence and peace. In moments of busyness and striving, she takes a step back to reflect on God’s goodness and faithfulness. This practice helps her realign her focus and find peace, knowing that God is in control.

Embracing the Theme of Restore

The podcast’s theme, “restore,” resonates deeply with both Kaylie and Skylar. They discuss how important it is to allow the Lord to repair and restore their souls, especially during challenging times. Whether through silent and wordless prayer or reflective practices, they emphasize the need for intentional moments of restoration to maintain spiritual health and resilience.

Conclusion

The Network of Women Ministers: Campus Edition podcast featuring North Central University is a testament to the power of support, community, and intentional spiritual practices in nurturing the next generation of women in ministry.
