This scholarship is in honor of Dorothy Johnson Vaughan, an American mathematician and human computer who worked for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics as well as NASA at Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. Vaughan is one of the women featured in Margot Lee Shetterly’s history Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race (2016).

The one time scholarship is reserved for new Fall 2022 undergraduates in the School of Technology at North Central University and are BIPOC and/or female. They must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and completed Algebra II and English with a minimum grade of a B in each. Strong candidates will have a proven aptitude for academic commitment, Godly character and servanthood. To apply, provide one letter of recommendation from a non-family member, a 600-word personal essay, and proof of admission.
