Position Purpose

The Residence Life Graduate Assistant (GA) will serve as a critical member of the residence life team overseeing our on-campus apartment community and assisting with critical projects throughout the year. As the GA of residence life, this position will lead Resident Assistants, mentor students, mediate conflict, and provide educational programming to apartment residents.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The following information is not meant to be all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

(70%) Oversight of NCU’s Apartment Community

  • Lead NCU apartment students by providing educational and social programming, conflict mediation, and assist with moving on and off campus.
  • Oversee Apartment RA’s by leading in one-on-one mentoring, consistent staff meetings, and ongoing team development.
  • Oversee Senior Programming by working with the Apartment Community In-Hall Team or advising a senior programming student organization.
  • Share in RD on-duty phone coverage roughly four times a semester for a week at a time.
  • Participate in student conduct process – student meetings, Conduct Review, decision letters, eRezLife tracking, etc.
  • Participate in roommate conflict conversations – specifically by “shadowing” RD in meeting(s) and follow-up
  • Meet bi-weekly w/RD “mentor” or Dean

 (30%) Assist with Seasonal Projects

  • In conjunction with Resident Director, lead the ideating and executing of January training for Residence Life Student Leaders.
  • Assist with the Spring Housing Season by working closely with Assistant Dean of Housing in hosting, leading, and mediating housing conversations and placing students in their fall housing.
  • Assist with Apartment Selection Night
  • Assist with hiring season
  • Being a part of the housing and chapel committees
  • Serve as the Summer RD overseeing a team of RAs for trainings, a weekly meeting and other events (e.g., new student orientation)

Minimum Education and experience

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree with acceptance into one of the graduate programs at North Central University.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Demonstrated Christian character and servant leadership
  • Commitment to University mission and statement of faith
  • Ability to work in supervisory, collegial, and/or mentoring relationships with others, including staff, faculty, and students
  • Knowledge of, and ability to fully use, technological resources including a wide variety of computer programs and applications
  • Residence Life knowledge and experience is preferred
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Ability to communicate and follow up verbally and in writing to ensure shared understanding of accurate information
  • Ability to deal with conflict resolution in a professional manner
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and conflicting priorities to accomplish tasks efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and independently
  • Skill and ability to input data accurately and efficiently

Additional Details

  • This position is a one-year position with the candidate pursuing a graduate degree from North Central University. It includes tuition remission, room, and a food stipend for on-campus dining. Anticipated start date: August 1st, 2025.
