Position Purpose
The individual(s) serving in the Student Accounts Specialist
position is responsible for all aspects of initiating and maintaining transactions, records, and communication for student accounts in a knowledgeable, effective manner that keeps outstanding receivables at a minimum level.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
(25%) Manage Student Accounts Income Reconciliation
- Oversee daily cash income reconciliation and send reports to Accounting
- Coordinate with point-of-sale locations across campus to assist with troubleshooting regarding their daily cashiering batches.
- Troubleshoot reconciliation errors with Accounting
- Work along side student workers for consistent reconciliation
(25%) Manage North Central’s Internal Collections Efforts
- Coordinate the current term payment plan available through TouchNet
- Delinquent payment plan student follow-up and correspondence
- Create monthly invoices and set up internal payment plans for previous students with an outstanding balance
- Turn delinquent accounts over to Third-party collections when appropriate
- Manage and provide communication efforts for delinquent accounts
(20%) Provide Excellent Customer Service regarding Student Billing
- Counsel and assist students and parents on the payment options and process – understanding their registration charges.
- Help students create plans to pay for school and be financially prepared.
- Understand the financial aid and student account processes in order to answer student questions or direct them to content experts.
- Provide customer support for NCU’s Internal Payment Plan the Ram Plan, making payments, how to view their bill, and understanding any registration holds.
- Review and modify billing transactions to reflect the University’s costs and billing desires for the current semester as needed
(10%) Calculate, coordinate non-rules based transactions for accounts receivable
- Issue available funds to students due to a credit balance on their account in the form of a refund.
- Track and process stale refund checks
- Enter Miscellaneous Transactions onto student accounts including fines, fees and housing
- Post financial aid disbursements and coordinate timing with financial aid experts
Job Qualifications
Minimum Education and experience
- A high school diploma or the equivalent is required for this position.
- At least 2 years of education or experience in a business-related field is preferred, with preference given to accounting, financial aid or customer service.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to fully use technological resources including a wide variety of computer programs and applications (including but not restricted to word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
- Knowledge of basic cashier or teller responsibilities.
- Knowledge of basic accounting standards to interpret reports received from loan servicing company, presently University Accounting Systems
- Knowledge of Federal and State financial aid programs as it pertains to issuing a check for excess funds to a student
- Skill in using 10 key adding machine by touch
- Skill in keyboarding by touch at a speed of 35-40 WPM
- Skill in customer service to provide quality customer care.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written format

- Position requires use of a PC and 10-key calculator approximately 75% of the time.
Environmental Conditions
- Position involves repetitive motion of the fingers, hands and wrists on a daily basis.
- Work environment involves working in an urban, Christ-centered University.
