Pastors Ongoing Education

We are excited to announce a new series of Ongoing Education Events for Pastors, designed to equip and inspire ministry leaders.

This series will take place in person on the NCU campus Anderson Chapel and will also be available via livestream, making it accessible for pastors beyond our local community.

Events Schedule

Chapel takes places from 10:50a.m. – 11:40a.m.

Lunch and workshops will take place from noon – 1:30p.m.

  •  September 17: Preaching Workshop

Facilitator: Dr. Darnell Williams
Join us for an engaging workshop that will enhance your preaching skills and equip you to communicate effectively in your ministry.

  • October 29: Pastoral Counseling Workshop
    Facilitator: Dr. Andy Schuttinga

Dr. Schuttinga will be discussing some of the basics of how pastors can help parishioners with mental health needs and when it might be best to have someone else help instead. We will also discuss how messaging from the pulpit can help and hinder those dealing with mental health issues.

  • Dr. Schuttinga is passionate about teaching psychology from a Christian perspective and loves working with college students. Humans are created in God’s image, which means that by understanding human behaviors, emotions, thoughts, and our spiritual nature we understand more about who God is. Dr. Schuttinga is a regular guest on Afternoons with Bill Arnold on Faith Radio and has spoken at churches, schools and other venues about various topics in psychology. Dr. Schuttinga is married with two sons and a labradoodle. He enjoys running, playing competitive games and sports, reading, and traveling to National Parks.

  • November 19: HR and the Church
    Facilitator: Neely Tamminga

Using the Trust Triangle to Assess and Advise in the Workplace.  Broken trust is a common issue facing any organization and is more often than not the source of peer conflict.  Fixing trust issues in the workplace requires a tailored assessment of self and others.  Using the core elements of authenticity, logic, and empathy, we will explore common situations that lead to broken trust and surprisingly simple solutions to rebuild trustworthiness in the workplace.

  • If economic data were nutrition, Neely Tamminga would be a nutritionist. CEO-friendly and board-approved, DISTILL’s co-founders advise publicly traded and privately held companies about consumer behavior all through an economic lens.  A co-founder and “chief whiteboard artist,” Neely launched DISTILL seven years ago following a 20+ year career on Wall Street where Neely led the consumer research practice at Piper Jaffray (now Piper Sandler).  An original co-author of the “Taking Stock With Teens” consumer survey project and a TEDx speaker, Neely has been researching and writing about consumer behavior for more than half her life. Neely enjoys teaching management, leadership, and economics in the Business program at North Central University.

  • January 21: They Didn’t Teach Me That in Bible College

Have you ever faced a situation in ministry and thought, “They didn’t teach me about this in Bible college?” This workshop will explore the critical gap between theological education and real-world ministry challenges. Building on real world scenarios, we will provide strategic insight into contemporary ministry challenges. The session will incorporate case study analysis, peer group discussion, and practical skill building.

  • Dr. Adam C. Sikorski holds many roles at NCU. He is an Associate Professor of Church Leadership, the Director of Faculty Administration, and the Director of Bible Lands Studies. He has over 14 years of Christian Higher Education experience coupled with over 22 years of Pastoral ministry. Dr. Sikorski is an alumni of NCU. He has a M.A. in Theological Studies and a Masters of Divinity, and he has a Doctorate of Ministry in Church Leadership from AGTS.
